Our curriculum provides a strong foundation in the primary years through the Ontario Program for Grades 1 to 5. Students are fully immersed in English while learning 10% of their subjects in Vietnamese, preparing to succeed anywhere in the world, just like native Canadian students. With a focus on STEAM and inquiry-based learning, learners develop critical thinking skills.

By the end of OOP Primary, students typically show strong skills in reading fluency and comprehension, numeracy through multi-step problem-solving and early research and presentation abilities.
Primary students develop important skills such as collaboration, responsibility and initiative. Children practise these through hands-on projects such as the STEAM Week Ecological Design Contest, entrepreneurship challenges and environmental stewardship campaigns.During a global citizenship unit, students worked together to create a campaign to reduce plastic waste at school, building communication and leadership skills through real-world action.
From the earliest years, Primary students at our school in Hanoi are immersed in a bilingual environment where English and Vietnamese are integrated across learning. English is the primary language of instruction in the Ontario Optimized Program (OOP). Vietnamese as an Additional Language (VAL) supports new learners in developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Available across all programs, VAL offers a supportive, engaging space for international students to build Vietnamese language skills, deepen cultural connections, and grow as confident bilingual communicators. The rich learning experiences are complemented by the excitement of representing HTS at the ISP Games hosted by BCIS Phuket, where Upper Primary athletes develop teamwork and sportsmanship on an international stage.
